Historically and culturally speaking, Bo Kaap is one of the most interesting neighborhoods of Cape Town, which was originally settled by freed slaves brought over by the Dutch in the 17th and 18th Century. It is nestled on the slopes of Silent Hill, west of the City Bowl and it is full of colorful Bo Kaap properties-pink, orange, green, lime and turquoise. Many of these properties are national monuments and date back 1750s, with cobbled streets that rise up to meet the lower slopes of Signal Hill on which the suburb lies.
